[b]Ras Mohammed underwater clean-up – looking for CDWS volunteers

CDWS has teamed up with the Ras Mohammed National Park to organise an underwater clean-up of Jackfish Alley to Eel Garden on 1 July. The Ras Mohammed National Park is looking for dive centres to volunteer dive boats to facilitate the clean-up and around 40 divers to participate. This a great opportunity to get your guests involved in a local environmental project.
The clean-up will take place during one dive from each boat on the day. A guide from the Ras Mohammed National Park will join each boat to brief divers on safe and environmentally friendly clean-up techniques, as well as provide all the materials needed to remove waste.
Park representatives say the popular dive site is littered with fishing line and other materials harmful to both marine life and divers.

[b]Who can take part?[/b]
All divers taking part in the dive must have good buoyancy and be qualified to at least PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent with at least 60 logged dives. You may want to organise a group of staff, or invite guests to take part in the event.

[b]Technical team also required[/b]
The park representatives are also looking for the help of a team of four technical divers to survey and recover items lying around depths of up to 50m in Jackfish Alley. All collection materials will also be supplied for the technical diving clean-up by the park authorities.

In the first instance, please register your interest in taking part by emailing me at charlotte.boan@cdws.travel stating how you can help (supply of boat/ team from a dive centre/ diver/ technical diver).
Guides and Technical Managers are asked to attend an initial briefing about the clean-ups on Monday 22 June at 6.30pm in the lecture room at the South Sinai Protectorate Offices, Bank Street, Hadaba. The meeting will cover the task, techniques, what to collect, what not to remove and the required supervision needed.
